Peter Vandersteen is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) in Idaho. He is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington. Peter completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Idaho. After working in various fields, he recognized that helping others is what he is most passionate about. In 2011, He graduated from the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies in Center City, MN, now known as the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School.
Peter aspires to help individuals who struggle with mental health and/or addictions. During his time working as an addictions counselor, it became evident how addictions and mental health disorders are often intertwined. People with substance use disorders are at particular risk for developing one or more primary conditions or chronic diseases. The coexistence of both a mental illness and a substance use disorder, known as a co-occurring disorder, is common among people in treatment. In 2018, he became licensed as a mental health counselor to provide holistic treatment to his clients. He is also a certified EMDR therapist, specializing in trauma.
Peter's practice offers services to anyone struggling with mental health AND/OR substance use disorders. By no means is it required that you struggle with substances. Rather, he offers additional expertise in this area.
Peter frequently works with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, PTSD, complex trauma, bipolar disorder, life transitions, relationships/communication, and/or substance use disorders, to name a few.
